Whether you’re scheduled for cataract surgery, laser vision correction, or a cornea procedure, our goal is to make your experience as smooth, safe, and stress-free as possible.
Below, you’ll find easy-to-follow instructions to help you feel prepared, stay comfortable, and heal with confidence. And if you have questions along the way? Our team is always just a phone call away.
1. Follow Pre-Op Medication Instructions: If you’ve been prescribed eye drops or medications before your procedure, follow the directions carefully. Our team will explain when and how to take them during your pre-op appointment.
2. Don’t Eat or Drink Before Surgery: For most procedures, you must stop eating or drinking at least 8 hours before your surgery, unless otherwise instructed. We’ll confirm your exact timing the day before.
3. Arrange for Transportation: You cannot drive yourself home. Please arrange for a friend or family member to take you to and from your appointment.
4. Avoid Makeup, Lotions, and Fragrances: Please come with a clean face—no eye makeup, creams, perfumes, or lotions on the day of surgery.
5. Wear Comfortable Clothing: Dress in loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. Avoid anything that pulls over your head or sheds lint near your eyes.
1. Rest and Take It Easy: You may feel a little tired after your procedure. Plan to rest for the remainder of the day and avoid strenuous activities or bending over for at least 24 hours.
2. Use Eye Drops as Directed: You’ll be given prescription eye drops to prevent infection and reduce inflammation. Follow the schedule closely, and call us if you have trouble using it.
3. Wear Your Protective Eye Shield (if provided): If you’re given a shield to wear while sleeping, keep it on as directed—usually for several nights.
4. Avoid Rubbing or Touching Your Eyes: Even if your eyes feel itchy or gritty, avoid rubbing them. This helps prevent infection and protects the surgical site.
5. No Swimming, Hot Tubs, and Heavy Exercise: Avoid pools, lakes, hot tubs, or high-impact workouts for at least 1 week after surgery, or until Dr. Richard Chu clears you.
We’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to check your healing and answer any questions you may have. Most patients return to light activity within 1–2 days and experience steady vision improvement over the following weeks.
